Some things are beautiful.

Some things are peaceful.

Some things are joy.

Some things change one’s hearts.

This is ugly.

This is adrenaline.

This is misery.

This devours a soul.

It was a regular day on the day that everything changed. No one saw it coming. No one expected it. No one knew of it.

And no one escaped.

The news was everywhere. The panic was everywhere. The facilities were everywhere. They were everywhere.

The world was doomed to burn from day one.

There’s never been so much chaos at a Blue Conference. All the leaders of the world were sitting in the audience and murmuring at the presentation.

The argument.

The chaos.

The End.

“We’re already in the beginning of this. We have to let the public know. NOW! I don’t care if you have a risk of getting fired. They are out there. They are sick. You are sick. And the country, the world, the people, deserve to know that—”

“Please, Professor. Try to understand my perspective in things. Try to—”

“Mr. Anderson! Wake up and smell the coffee! People will die. Your people.”

“De Marchi has a point… If we act now maybe—”

“Canada. Not now,” he slumped back into the chair with a sign, “Professor, do you really think people will want me in charge if I tell them?”

“Does it really matter? With all due respect, sir, this is ridiculous. No one will not have time to kick you out of your fancy little throne and name a new king by the time you tell them what’s been happening.”

“You already made us hide people from their families. You know what’s happening. Just accept it!”

“Japan is right. We have had to pay millions just to keep people quiet. Do you think we are rich enough for this? Mali was broke before, and we are loosing everything now.”

“Canada can provide for some things. We have resources and land. But, we need the money for research on this, not on media control.”

“We don’t need to create panic!”

The room is filled with arguments. No one agrees with the person on top. No one agrees that this can be a secret. The room is echoing in yelling. Pleading. The world turns the way the powerful tells it to, even if everyone else disagrees.

“We don’t need to tell everyone in the whole fucking world… their fucking representative is sick with a disease that might just be worse than anything ever seen before!”

Silence. No one speaks. No one moves.

“All those in favor of announcing a worldwide message, raise your hand.”

The small whisper from Mexico is accompanied by almost all the leaders with their hand raised. The silence speaks more than all the arguments before.

“No. I have final say. I approve or disapprove worldwide actions. You can’t fucking do shit.”

“Sorry, Anderson. This is urgent business, worldwide issues. Not some chance to gain power. If you won’t listen to Professor De Marchi, we will act without your approval.”

“All those in favor, with the knowledge that people will be pissed?”“This is fucking crazy!”

“With?”

In broken unity, 124 voices are scattered along with murmurs and curses.

“For Earth!”

“You can’t vote without my approval! I AM FIRST CITIZEN!”

“Those opposed?”

“Against,” the few voices sound desperate and angry. Even with humanity at risk, the world can’t agree on anything.

“Those withholding?”

“Abstain…” The insure and hesitant leaders don’t want to be blamed. No one wants to take blame if their vote factors into the destruction of humanity.

“124 in favour, 48 against, 38 withhold.”

No one cheers. No one boos. Everyone knows panic will rip through the planet. No matter the vote.
